Belize Kayak Adventures

New! Maya Reef Explorer New!

5 Days / 5 Nights

This is a brand new adventure trip for the 2009-10 season. We start on our 1st night (Day 0) at the Tropical Education Center, adjacent to the Belize Zoo. Here we are able to explore the surrounding savannah forest through a network of interpretative trails and wildlife viewing platforms. We then travel by charter boat out past the main Barrier Reef to our private base-camp on Southwest Caye, at Glover's Reef Marine Reserve where we will can explore some of the 700 snorkel sites that Glover's Atoll has to offer.

We'll spend 2 nights here with full days of activities, snorkeling, sea kayaking, kayak sailing, fishing, or optional scuba diving ($50 per dive). After our days activities enjoy the rare beauty and peacefulness of a remote coral reef island under the stars and learn about the cultures of Belize.

On day 3 we will move back to Dangriga we board our charter flight to connect us with the next leg of the journey. Once airborne we have the Manatee Lagoons over our left shoulder and the Belize Barrier Reef over our right, giving us an impressive view of Belize's coastal topography from the Caribbean sea to the Maya Mountains. We are then picked up and brought to the lodge where we are staying right within the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary.

On Day 4 there is a full day of exploration as we travel overland and by river to the Mayan ruins of Lamanai where we explore the many temples, plazas, palaces, and museums within the park boundaries. In the afternoon we depart Lamanai by river boat where we have tremendous birding and wildlife opportunities: Iguana, parrots, toucan, aracari and Morelet's crocodile are usually seen as we travel along the New River returning to our lodge along the banks of the Crooked Tree Lagoon.

On day 5 After breakfast we enjoy a morning boat tour in the lagoons and then depart to the Mayan site of Altun Ha. Considered one of the major Mayan ceremonial centres of Belize, Altun Ha also functioned as an important trading centre between the interior and the Caribbean Sea during the classic period (250-900 AD). Within the site, there are more than 275 structures and there are up to 250 to 300 unexcavated mounds. Our trip finishes in the afternoon and we can drop you off directly at the Belize International Airport in time to connect with your flight home, or at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel, on the outskirts of Belize City.

Kayaking the Paradise Islands of Belize

6 Days / 7 Nights

"A quick note to express how enjoyable our trip was. From start to finish it was fantastic. The caving experience was unbelievable; it was something out of an Indiana Jones movie. The kayaking and camping was all I hoped it would be. The camp sites were great, the guides were top flight, the food was fantastic & will attribute the excellent weather to you and yours as well. It was the right blend of activity & relaxation".
Jeff Johnson
Coral Islands Kayak Adventure

Join us for a 6 day, 7 night Belizean, Caribbean adventure, kayaking from wilderness cay to cay and camping on these palm studded islands as we go. We'll paddle and sail our kayaks along the barrier reef for about 5 to 10 miles a day, leaving us plenty of time to snorkel, fish and enjoy the beautiful warm, crystal waters of these tropical Belizean out islands. We'll explore many different regions of the reef by kayak including the inner and outer walls, patch and fringing reefs, mangrove ranges and protected lagoons.

"The trip was absolutely great from beginning to end. Everybody was really friendly from the guides to the other people on the trip, I had a really great time."
Gabriele Goddard
Coral Islands

The 6 day, 7 night Coral Islands multi-sport trip is the perfect combination of vacation and adventure in the tropics. As we paddle and sail from cay to cay, traveling over 20 miles along the southern Barrier Reef of Belize, the itinerary will stimulate the active person yet still leave us ample time to relax and enjoy island life. Try world class snorkeling, camp on postcard-perfect tropical cays and explore secluded mangrove islands, or kick back in a hammock while guides prepare delicious meals of seafood, Caribbean vegetables, tropical fruits and fresh baked bread. After six glorious days on the water, we cross back to the mainland returning to the village of Dangriga for an evening of camaraderie and fun, where the beat of skin drums, along with traditional dances and songs bring to life the history of the Garifuna people of Belize.

"The trip was great. We had perfect weather, perfect guides, and a perfect mix of people.
I loved every minute of the trip. It felt like I had been away for weeks! A real vacation!"
Joy Tauber
Coral Islands

For added adventure value on the Coral Islands we have included a day at the beginning of the trip focusing on the Mayan Archaeology caves of Actun Tunichil Muknal. With guides specially trained by the Belize Department of Archaeology, we venture into the sacred underworld of the Maya on an incredible journey through time into the spirit world of the ancients. From the mouth of the cave we follow a subterranean creek bed to the entrance of a massive, cathedral-like sacrificial chamber. Once inside the chamber, our light beams illuminate an astonishing variety of artifacts; littering the cave floor are dozens upon dozens of ceramic vases, stone tools, and carved altars which have lain hidden for over a thousand years.

"Trip to Actun Cave was a fabulous addition to the kayak trip.
At first I did not think it would be interesting, but the site is incredible and the hike into
the cave a lot of fun. It was definitely a highlight of my week."

Coral Reef Kayaking and Jungle Expedition of Belize

10 Days / 11 nights

The best of kayaking the Belize coral reef and expolring the Belize jungle. Our sea to rainforest expedition is, for many, the adventure of a lifetime. On this itinerary, we sail, paddle and snorkel our way along the wild southern Barrier Reef, camp on idyllic tropical islets and explore underwater coral reefs. We then head inland to follow a river through the world renowned Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve.

"We had great meals all the time. Given the nature of the trip we could only carry so much food & types of food. So the meals were done very well. This was truly an adventure trip. The equipment was well maintained and our guides were very knowledgeable of the area. Looking forward to doing another adventure trip with them in the future!"

Scott Kast
Coral / Jungle Expedition

Paddle among dolphins, sea turtles and eagle rays; raise sails to the northeasterly trades and feel the thrill as your kayak skims over the sea with the energy of the wind. And each day on our journey, we snorkel from our kayaks, exploring remote coral reefs where few people ever get to go; marvelling at brilliantly colored tropical fish and fantastic looking marine creatures. At times, we float quietly over sea grass beds with eyes peeled for the queen conch or swim along a reef wall and peer into holes and coral crevasses searching for spiny lobster. If we are lucky, there will be plenty of fresh lobster and conch for a seafood feast. At camp, after a delicious dinner, we listen as our Garifuna and Creole guides weave a tapestry of stories from their native Belize.

Photographic opportunities are exceptional as we journey from the turquoise blues of the Caribbean to the verdant rainforest of the Maya Mountains. Changing from sea kayaks to inflatable river kayaks we spend the next days hiking and paddling through Belize’s largest wildlife sanctuary. In this new environment, our Mayan guides teach us how to recognize the life that is all around us. Along the river, a citreoline trogon is a flash of brilliant color against the green foliage. What at first glance is a partially decayed leaf, on closer inspection, miraculously transforms into a butterfly, and not far from camp, a distinctive, musky odor tells us that a drove of wild peccary are close by.

On the river, our two-person inflatable kayaks combine the responsiveness and maneuverability of a kayak with the stability and comfort of a raft, enabling you and your paddling partner to easily captain your own boat (even with no previous paddling experience) as we follow the river through this spectacular rainforest wilderness.

"I would like to say a big thank you for a well done trip. You have obviously spent a great deal of time to make sure that your trips are memorable experiences. Everything ran smoothly and the guides were great!!"

Belize Ultimate Adventure: Kayak / Jungle River / Mayan Caves:
9 Day / 10 Nights

This is an extraordinary journey through Belize packed with adventure and excitement; you’ll sea kayak, snorkel, dive, windsurf, hike through the rainforest, explore Mayan ruins and ceremonial caves and descend an incomparable tropical river through canyons and lush rainforest. On each stage of the trip, you’re teamed with the best guides in Belize – individuals whose knowledge and experience enable you to see and do what you never thought possible.

We begin with two days of sea kayaking in a remote island group along the southern barrier reef, then on to our marine basecamp at Glover's Atoll for two more fantastic days of snorkeling, kayaking, diving and board-sailing.

Returning to the mainland, we now travel west from the coast deep into the Maya Mountains. Here, the rainforest covers the land and the ancient traditions of the Maya are still strong. On this next series of adventures, we descend into the Actun Tunichil Caves to explore underground rivers, and astounding burial chambers, with pottery, stone tools and carved altars that have lain as is, for thousands of years. Then we embark on an exhilarating four day paddle trip into the rainforest valleys of the Moho River in the ‘Wild South” of Belize.

Although no previous experience or special skills are needed to participate in the Ultimate Adventure, you should be in good enough physical condition to paddle up to 10 miles a day or hike with a light pack for three or four hours.

"The Ultimate adventure trip was first rate from start to finish. It offers a great variety of activities and the organization of the various components was impressive. Visiting the Mayan village and interacting with the local people was an unexpected bonus. The guides were knowledgeable & friendly. They definitely enhanced our experience. This was probably our best family holiday. I would highly recommend Belize and this company to anyone seeking an active vacation that is both a lot of fun and educational."

Glover's Reef & River of Caves

7 Days / 8 Nights:

Thirty six miles offshore of the Belize mainland lie a group of tropical islands cradled within a turquoise lagoon and surrounded by a living coral reef. Glover's Reef Atoll is considered to be one of the richest tropical marine environments in the entire Caribbean. Our private island base of over 13 acres is perched on the southern edge of the atoll with a dramatic view facing east over the main reef crest and the open Caribbean. Based from our comfortable field camp we are fully equipped to spend six and a half days sea kayaking and kayak sailing, snorkeling, diving, and fishing. After our adventures each day we like to reward ourselves with a bounty of fresh seafood, island baking, tropical fruits and yes, even rich, decadent deserts! Glovers is ideal for those who wish to enjoy the comforts of a well-appointed field camp yet want an active and flexible day-to-day schedule. Exclusive to Glovers, is our underwater Sea-Breathe System (TM) which provides air for divers and non-divers to depths of 25 ft. Also available are optional Scuba certification courses, resort courses and equipment rentals.

On arrival in Belize, before heading out to Glovers, we have an opportunity to experience the diversity of the rainforest and the rich Mayan culture of the interior. Working with guides from the Belize Tropical Education Center, our itinerary includes a rare chance to view the nocturnal wildlife of Belize, and then, in the jungle, we enjoy a leisurely float down a rainforest river with inner large tubes, exploring a fantastic limestone cave.

"It is a beautiful and still unspoiled country with beautiful unspoiled people. We greatly enjoyed very good food, wonderful Belizean tour guide stories, the kayaking, and snorkeling, idyllic sailing, deep sea fishing with huge results we will all swear to and subsequently ate, Hammocks, floating in inner tubes in a cave with headlights on, zoos, horseback riding, Mayan ruins, exquisite tours of wild flora, and fauna. (we were especially fond of the howler monkeys!) A great group of people we felt we had known forever but some of whose last names we still do not know, the secret life of coconuts, having perpetually salty sandy feet, cashew wine, fried jacks, rice and beans, wild drums and dancing. All in all, a true adventure to be reviewed, relived, relieved, rejoiced, and remembered."

Belize Lighthouse Reef Kayak Adventure

7 Days / 8 Nights

Lighthouse Reef, made famous by legendary underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau, has become known amongst divers as the ‘Aquarium’, renowned for its sheer abundance of marine life, crystal clear waters and thriving coral reefs.

Beyond the barrier reef, past Turneffe Atoll–some fifty miles and more eastwards of the Belize mainland– a coral atoll rises from the sea. Shimmering with white-sand cayes and lush green with groves of coconut palms, the lagoon provides a rare underwater habitat for snorkelers, with miles upon miles of shallow waters rich with corals. Where the lagoon drops off to the open sea; precipitous walls, undersea ridges and valleys brimming with life are the deeper realm of scuba divers.

Long difficult to access and out of reach for kayakers and snorkelers, we have pioneered the first-ever basecamp at Lighthouse Reef. We sleep in spacious walk-in tents (every window has an ocean view) and after each days activities our open air dining pavilion is the perfect place to relax in comfort with fine meals and splendid company.

"This is the best adventure trip I have ever had! Thank you for introducing me to a tropical paradise I have only ever dreamt about. I was totally enthralled by the Belize coral reefs – The clarity of the water & the variety of corals & fish was outstanding & revealed new treasures every day. I learnt so much about the country and culture as well as the exquisite natural environment. The guides were superb and ran the whole trip in an unassuming yet efficient manner with a high degree of professionalism. A huge amount of work must go on behind the scenes to achieve such a smooth operation."
